Cool Sites I Like:
Pretty self-explanatory, go check 'em out!
General:
- Based.cooking - A minimalist, adfree and unintrustive recipe website run by Luke Smith.
- DC's Website - A friend of mine from 3DSPaint. The site has a retro aesthetic that I totally dig, as well as some entertaining blog posts, links, and even a chatroom.
- GrowVeg - Gardening guides and tutorials.
- Jacob's Unnamed Blog - A well-worded and interesting blog by Jacob, a Christian Comp. Sci. student. Part of the Heaven Tree webring.
- LindyPress.net - Luke's book reprinting site where he sells hard-to-find classical and medieval works.
- Marginalia - A Swede's personal site. They've got quite a bit going on here: a search engine, blog, encyclopedia, an alternative Reddit frontend, etc.
- Mr. Money Mustache - Very good financial advice. Has an RSS feed.
- Not Related! - Luke's podcast. I absolutely love it and recommend it to everybody. On it, he discusses various big-brained topics.
- Vimm's Lair: Preserving the Classics - A site dedicated to nostalgia for many of the greatest game consoles ever made.
- Wiby - A search engine that indexes fast, lightweight websites reminiscent of the early Web.
Technology:
- Landchad.net - Another Luke Smith site, hosting tutorials to help anyone set up their own website and/or self-hosted service(s).
- Suckless - A group dedicated to writing minimalist software that sucks less.
Music:
- John Roache's Ragtime MIDI Library - It was a pretty decent sized library of MIDI music, it even included some Tom Brier pieces. The site went down some time last year, and now redirects to some Indonesian lottery site. Pretty lame. I'm using the Wayback link now, though I might archive it myself eventually.
- Keeper's long-lost MIDI files - A site run by Keeper1st, home to all of his original compositions, as well as some others that he cleaned up for MIDI.
- Keeper's VGM and Other Fun Sheet Music - Another site run by Keeper1st, where he keeps sheet music to video game (and other media) transcriptions of music. Some of these also include MIDIs or video performances.
- Swedish Ragtime Home Page - Another Swede site, this hosts a ton of ragtime compositions in the form of MIDI files. It also features information on various ragtime artists, events, literature, etc. It even has a web jukebox.
- West Coast Ragtime Society - "Dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Ragtime and vintage American music." Information relating to the West Coast Ragtime Festival is kept here, as well as many ragtime artists and members of the society.
